PCB Design Capability

Define the design work and the files needed to review it. Design capability should be assessed against the circuit, mechanical constraints and the intended manufacturing process, not just the name of a CAD tool.

Requirements for an engineering review

TopicInformation to supplyDecision to confirm
Source filesTool name/version, schematic, board file, libraries and revision history.Confirm editing compatibility and rights to use the source.
Electrical constraintsVoltage/current conditions, signal interfaces and thermal assumptions.Assign design decisions, checking and product validation.
Mechanical constraintsOutline and component heights in mm, mounting and connector locations.Coordinate layout and enclosure requirements.
HandoverEditable files, BOM, drawings and manufacturing exports.Agree deliverables, review stages and revision consistency.

How to confirm the applicable range

Send the current revision and the limits that matter to your product. The review should identify the responsible manufacturing site or supply partner, the agreed conditions and the approval needed for exceptions. Keep the confirmed range, source and review date with the released project records.

Release checklist

  • Resolve conflicting notes or units before the order is released.
  • Confirm whether the requirement is routine, requires an engineering trial or is outside the proposed scope.
  • Agree inspection or verification evidence and the owner of unresolved design decisions.
