PCB Material Selection
Select PCB material from the electrical, thermal, mechanical and manufacturing requirements. A general material family does not establish that two laminates are interchangeable; agree the grade and any permitted alternatives.
Requirements for an engineering review
| Topic | Information to supply | Decision to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Thermal conditions | Assembly/rework process, operating temperature and application duty. | Review material data and the complete thermal use case. |
| Electrical behavior | Frequency, impedance and loss requirements supplied by the designer. | Confirm the relevant data, stackup and measurement conditions. |
| Mechanical needs | Board thickness in mm, expansion, flexing and enclosure constraints. | Coordinate laminate, construction and mechanical design. |
| Procurement | Specified grade, availability and approved substitution rules. | Resolve alternatives before manufacture and update the drawing. |
How to confirm the applicable range
Send the current revision and the limits that matter to your product. The review should identify the responsible manufacturing site or supply partner, the agreed conditions and the approval needed for exceptions. Keep the confirmed range, source and review date with the released project records.
Release checklist
- Resolve conflicting notes or units before the order is released.
- Confirm whether the requirement is routine, requires an engineering trial or is outside the proposed scope.
- Agree inspection or verification evidence and the owner of unresolved design decisions.
